Paiste’s oldest version of the instrument, Symphonic Gongs have a slightly raised surface (without boss) with a harmonic and universal sound structure. The fundamental note of the gong is balanced with the instrument’s complex overtones.
The characterizing word Symphonic thereby should not be misinterpreted as describing the literal sense of classical symphonic orchestra application but its original sense to unite harmonic sounds. The describing word universal shall be understood as “sound in its entirety”.

Paiste’s oldest version of the instrument, Symphonic Gongs have a slightly raised surface (without boss) with a harmonic and universal sound structure. The fundamental note of the gong is balanced with the instrument’s complex overtones.

The sound of these gongs can be influenced and varied through the nature of the stroke, as well as the size, weight, and composition of the mallets. By varying the striking points, highs, lows, and various sound mixtures contained in the entirety of the gong’s sound sphere may be extracted and played up.

Description
The MEINL Chau Tam Tams are handcrafted in China using the same methods and traditions which have been used to create gongs in this region for centuries. Made from a special bronze alloy, these tam tams have a large spread of tones and characteristics. From a sustained low hum to a brooding roar to fast explosive crashes, they work in many situations and blend well with other gongs and instruments.

The MEINL Opera Gong is handcrafted in a traditional way in China from a special bronze ironing. It has a very pronounced, curved shape with a large centre. The opera gong plays an important role in Chinese opera due to its descending pitch. An audible glissando effect with a short sustain can be achieved. The gong comes with a matching mallet.

Description
The Meinl Sonic Energy Tiger Gong is traditionally handcrafted in China by using a special bronze alloy. The name tells you already that the roaring and growling sound is reminiscent to that of a tiger. It has a very pronounced bent-out shape with a large center dot. Similar to the Opera Gong, it has a good amount of splash, but in comparison less of a descending bend effect. The gong comes with an appropriate beater.
